Title of the article: Kodak sues Apple and RIM over iPhone and Blackberry

Summary: camera giant Kodak sues the phone maker Apple and Research in Motion (RIM) over technology used in their mobile phone. Kodak thought that the technology for previewing pictures used in iPhone and Blackberry has infringed their patant. So, the camera maker decide to bring a lawsuit against these two companies. Kodak has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) for asking some compensation. However, Apple and RIM refused to give any comments on this case. In recent years, ITC has dealt with many cases of patant rights. Many digital companies want to use the law to protect their own innovations.
Reflection: as our society develops, patant rights is playing a more and more important role in our life, especially among some electronic product makers. The products made by these companies are combined many technologies, so, their is a bigger chance for them to infringe other companies patants. Now, it is becoming a common phenomenon that many giant companies accuse each other for copying their technologies. In my opnion, if those companies can share some of their ideas with others and try to make a progress together, they can get much more profits. Of course, we should protect our own patants, but the patant infringe is hard to define, especially in the technological area. I think coorperation is better than dispute.

I agree with you with some of the points in your reflection. howevery i dont think it will be a good idea to 'share some of their ideas with others and try to make a progress together'. this will make the defination of patent much harder and 'cheaper'.
回复删除also, i think the word should be 'patent' instead of 'patant' in your reflection~
anyway, well done^_^

I agree with Holly's idea about the fast development of giant companies in the field of electronic products. I am not quite sure about her sharing spirit among these gaints. Things may not be solved in such an easy and hamonious way. Recently, a lot of cases in which one gaint sues another for infringing its patent have attracted different opinions from the public. From my point of view, some of these cases may be just one method of advertising. There is a high probability that technologies of these companies infringe, as they all have the abilities to invent them. The phenomenon of infringing patents may have existed for quite a time, so it is wierd to me that these cases all came out together, one after one. It is necessary to carry out detailed and serious investments into these cases, but I am not sure if there will be easy judgements. Anyway, it may be hard to tell who invents the technology first, and who infriges the other's patent. If so, I think it is better for these companies to take one step back, and focus their attention back onto developing new products. After all, it is providing better services for customers not winning cases that is the right way to surpass other gaints in their fields.

I agree that patent rights are extremely important in this modern society and it is really the time for some developing country to regard the patent rights seriously. We should always respect the knowledge and more important the creators. In my point of view, protecting the patent rights is a signal of civilization and development. However, in some developing countries, thousands of books are printed illegally; famous brand logos are used everywhere without any limitation. Moreover, people view these phenomena as normal affairs. I think the government should really take effort to raise its people’s awareness of patent rights.

回复删除I also agree that the giant should cooperate and good technology should benefit more people. I admired that Mengyi treated it as an advertisement method and considered the difficulty of cooperation .For example, Nokia invited the lens giant--Carl Zeiss to authenticate the camera shot on its N-series phones .Here i am not exactly know the exact process about 'authenticate', but at least it cannot include the process of 'produce'. However after seeing the advertisement and introduction about N-series phones, most people believed that the camera shots on Nokia phones are made by Carl Zeiss. And this became a selling point of the phone. The statement of others' patent gained profits for Nokia but it more or less cheated the customers. Actually the customers don't concern about whether the patent is abused , what they concern about is whether the product can bring them enjoyable and convenient life. In conclusion, though the communication about patent needs effort to achieve, the market is looking forward to do so!
